Swimming World Cup 2026 – Silk Road Tour opens direct Beijing qualification through new wild card system

The World Aquatics Swimming World Cup 2026 enters October with far more than a routine series of races. The Silk Road Tour – featuring three stops in Baku, Azerbaijan; Tashkent, Uzbekistan and Astana, Kazakhstan – serves as a direct qualification pathway to the World Aquatics Swimming Championships (25m) in Beijing this December. A new wild card system will be trialled across the three stops. Any swimmer finishing in the top three of an individual event final while achieving an A standard time earns a wild card place for Beijing, allowing each member federation to bring up to three additional swimmers. The tour also features a total prize pool of USD 1.2 million, with an additional USD 10,000 for world record-breakers and for athletes who win the same event at all three stops, or two of three 800m/1500m freestyle races. Siobhan Haughey, four-time Olympic medallist and 19-time World Cup gold winner, said she expects fast racing and is excited to visit new cities. Cameron McEvoy, Olympic 50m freestyle champion, added that racing across Baku, Tashkent and Astana will bring a different energy to the season. World Aquatics also reminded media to apply for accreditation before the deadlines of September 29, October 6 and October 13 for the three respective stops. Accreditation is handled through the World Aquatics GMS portal, and journalists must present a valid passport on-site. With rising competitive depth and a clear qualification incentive, the 2026 Silk Road Tour is set to become one of the season's defining moments.
